STUDENTS SHOWED THEIR EXCITEMENT TO RECEIVE A NEW BACKPACK AT THE ANNUAL SPRINGFIELD CARES GIVEAWAY

 The students were excited as they anticipated receiving a new backpack and an assortment of school supplies to begin their new year. 

It was the morning thatSpringfield Cares organization held its annual backpack giveaway at Lakemore United Methodist Church. Volunteers were on hand to help out with giving out backpacks, passing out supplies and many other duties. 

The event was Saturday August 3 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The room at the church was sporting more than 500 backpacks and more than 400 students came though that morning to choose their favorite one.

Nancy Rodrigues, coordinator of the event, said that she will disperse the rest of the backpacks to the schools and the upcoming Safety Town event.

Those participating were GASP, Modern Movement Dance, Springfield Assembly of God with information ontheir upcoming events. 

It was a great day filled with smiles.

National Night Out in Lakemore....
        This year the Village of Lakemore is participating in the National Night Out.  This is a community event, bringing safety services together with the community. This event will be Thursday, August 1st from 4:00 until 6:00 at                             Dodds Lakefront Park.  

They  plan to have a food truck, face painting, a balloon artist, games and sprinklers, touch-a-truck, and Police and Fire Personnel on site to socialize.  

Kid ID kits and other freebies will be provided.

Young Fishermen enjoy fishing derby at Dodd's Park

 

The Village held the annual Fishing Derby June 29. The event was well attend and the children and families had a fun time. It was held at Dodds Park. The Akron Watershed Division was on hand with information and items as well as Summit Metro Parks. 

The event was sponsorded by Fisherman's Central, Port Summit Rotary, Berkley Catch More Fish, Fenwik, Pit Stop, Lakemore Police, Lakemore Fire, and Village of Lakemore Outreach. Prizes were given out in each age group for the most variety and biggest fish and then a prize for the biggest fish overall by any age. Springfield Township Police apprehend suspect preying on elderly citizens

 

Springfield Township Police have successfully apprehended a suspect involved in a fraudulent scheme that preyed on elderly citizens, extorting thousands of dollars from unsuspecting victims.

In November, the Springfield Police responded to a call from a senior citizen who fell victim to an elaborate scam, resulting in substantial financial losses. The scheme was initiated with a deceptive pop-up message on the victim’s computer, seemingly from Microsoft. Believing the message to be genuine, the senior contacted a provided phone number seeking assistance.

The fraudulent activity then escalated into a banking-related scam, where the scammers posed as representatives of the Social Security Administration. A fake agent from the Social Security Administration manipulated the victim into urgently sending money to an undisclosed location, claiming it was necessary to protect her funds. The elaborate ruse coerced the senior into making multiple cash withdrawals, which were handed over to supposed co-conspirators arriving at her doorstep.

Concerned about the legitimacy of the situation, the victim contacted the Springfield Township Police Department to report the incident. Subsequently, on December 4, 2023, the Springfield Township Police Department conducted a sting operation leading to the arrest of Junyi Yang 33 years old from New York as he arrived to collect a cash delivery.

The Springfield Township Police Department is cautioning senior citizens to remain vigilant and to contact law enforcement whenever they feel pressured to provide money. Scammers often exploit emotions and fabricate emergencies to coerce victims into hasty actions.

This incident underscores the importance of community awareness and collaboration in combating fraudulent activities. The Springfield Township Police Department remains committed to protecting its residents, particularly vulnerable populations such as seniors, from falling victim to scams.

Village of Lakemore Memorial Day Parade Information and Invitation to participate

 

The Village of Lakemore will continue a long-standing tradition of the annual Lakemore Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Dedication Service. 

The parade will be held Monday, May 29, 2023, and lineup will be at the Springfield Junior Senior High School at 10 a.m. The parade will kick off at 11 a.m.

Parade participants will travel down Sanitarium Road to Lake Road and end at the Memorial Triangle for the dedication service.

The citizens of the Village of Lakemore cordially invite you or your group to attend or participate in our annual Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 29, 2023. 

Participation is free and a great opportunity to be noticed. Line-up is at Springfield Sr/Jr High School, 1880 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio, 44312 at 10:00 a.m. Step-off is at 11:00 a.m. 

The parade route will be travelling down Sanitarium Road and turning right onto Lake Road. Our parade is one of celebration approaching the intersection of Lake Road and Monroe Street. 

Until this intersection is reached, we celebrate those who have served our country. Once each unit passes the intersection of Lake Road and Monroe Street, we go into “cadence only”. It is during this part of the parade that we remember those who have fallen and approach the Memorial Triangle in a solemn manner. Each unit will continue to the right of the Memorial Triangle and exit the parade onto Main Street at the Lakemore Municipal Building. Keeping with tradition, we will have a memorial and re-dedication service shortly following the parade at the Memorial Triangle.
